Battle of the Bands 2026

The Anchor Bar and Shindig Arts are proud to present the inaugural Battle of the Bands — a brand-new live music competition celebrating original music and creating opportunities for both established and emerging artists.

Whether you're stepping onto a stage for the first time or you've been gigging for years, Battle of the Bands is your chance to perform in front of a live audience and compete for a coveted performance slot on the Homegrown Stage at Eats & Beats Festival 2026.

Open to solo artists, duos and full bands of all genres, Battle of the Bands is about celebrating creativity, championing original music and discovering the next wave of local talent.



How It Works

Submit your application before 12 noon on Monday 27th July 2026.

  1. Successful applicants will be invited to perform in one of the qualifying heats.

  2. Selected acts will perform live at The Anchor Bar.

  3. Outstanding performances will progress to the Grand Final.

  4. The winning act will earn a performance slot on the Homegrown Stage at Eats & Beats Festival 2026.

Performance Information

Each successful act will receive:

  • A 30-minute performance slot (including set-up)

  • Professional PA and production

  • Basic backline provided

  • A welcoming live audience

  • Professional event promotion

Prize

Win a performance slot on the Homegrown Stage at Eats & Beats Festival 2026.

Eats & Beats has become one of Northern Ireland's leading celebrations of live music, artisan food and local culture, attracting thousands of visitors to Newcastle each September.

The winning act will join the festival line-up and perform as part of the 2026 Homegrown Stage programme.

Competition Rules

  • A minimum of two original songs must feature in every set.

  • Cover versions are welcome.

  • Performances must be suitable for an all-ages audience.

  • Acts will receive a 30-minute performance slot, including set-up.

  • Basic backline, PA and production will be provided.

  • The judging panel's decision is final.

Is there an entry fee?
No. Entry is completely free.

Do I have to perform original music?
Yes. Every act must include at least two original songs.

Can I play cover songs?
Absolutely, provided your set also includes at least two original compositions.

Can under-18s enter?
Yes. Battle of the Bands is open to performers of all ages.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?
A basic backline, PA and production will be provided. Further technical information will be sent to successful applicants.

How will the winner be chosen?
Acts will be judged on musicianship, originality, stage presence and audience engagement.
